The Los Angeles Lakers will kick things off for the 2024-25 NBA season against the Minnesota Timberwolves with Anthony Davis and LeBron James leading the charge.
With the Lakers struggling to win games in the preseason, fans expect the organization to execute a different strategy during the regular season.
One way to ensure that the Lakers add more dubs in the win column would be to allow Anthony Davis to be the primary scorer of the team. Previously, Davis has shown his talent when he is allowed to play his natural game on the court.
Last season, AD managed to stay fit for the majority of the season. He played more than 70 games for the first time since joining the Lakers. The veteran forward also ended his NBA All-Star drought while averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game.
Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Davis made his goals clear. He wants to dominate every game he plays in the iconic Purple and Gold jersey.
“Being aggressive down the floor, being dominant every game,” Davis said, per Dave McMenamin on X. “Just doing my job, doing my part, we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. Taking on the matchups defensively, taking on a role offensively, being a leader of the team, carrying us in games and the playoffs, whatever it takes.”
Considering the fact that LeBron James will soon turn 40 years old, it’s high time for Davis to take over the leadership role for the Lakers. If he can lead the franchise to an NBA championship in the process, it will be a huge benefit.

When the $43 million-per-year star was traded to the Lakers, he had omitted a few skills from his game. Evidently, it was required since the Purple and Gold wanted AD to fulfill a traditional center role.
However, to truly dominate the court, the 9x NBA All-Star needs to consistently shoot from the three-point line.
Davis attempted a career-high 3.5 three-point shots per game during the 2019-20 NBA season. As a result, the Lakers ended up lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy. But since then, AD’s outside shooting has slowly decreased.
The inability to shoot well from downtown has consistently hurt the Lakers over the past few seasons. Keeping that in mind, if a player of Davis’ defensive caliber also starts making three-pointers with consistency, the sky will be the limit for the 17-time NBA champions.
