"Opening the bowling in game no. 1, and suddenly…" – Simon Doull accuses Hardik Pandya of hiding injury

After a tough start to the campaign as Mumbai Indians captain in the ongoing IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya finally managed to lead the team to wins in the last two games.

Under their new captain, the five-time IPL champions began their season in a poor fashion. They lost their first three games of the season against Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals. However, Mumbai Indians have bounced back by registering two thumping wins in their last two games.

In the fourth game against Delhi Capitals, they emerged victorious by 29 runs after piling up a big total of 234. And on Thursday (April 11), they thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets after chasing down 197 runs in less than 16 overs. While Hardik Pandya did not have much to do with the bat in the game, he did manage to make an impact by smashing 21 runs off just six balls with the help of three sixes.

Is Hardik Pandya injured?

At a time when things finally started to look good for Hardik Pandya, he has been accused of hiding an injury by commentator Simon Doull. The former New Zealand fast-bowler is convinced that the Mumbai Indians skipper is not bowling in IPL 2024 because of an injury. He stated that the all-rounder is “not admitting” to an injury he has incurred during the ongoing competition.

Hardik Pandya bowled three overs in the first game against Gujarat before delivering all four overs in the following game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he did not bowl at all in the next two games before finally bowling just one over in the last game against RCB. Questions have been raised on his fitness and Simon Doull is convinced that the Mumbai Indians skipper is not bowling because of injury.

“You go out and make a statement by opening the bowling in game no. 1, and suddenly, you are not required. He’s injured. I’m telling you there is something wrong with him. He is not admitting it. But there is something wrong with him for sure. That is my gut feeling,” Simon Doull told Cricbuzz.

Hardik Pandya had to spend a good amount of time on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in October last year during the World Cup match against Bangladesh. He has not played for Team India since. He returned to competitive cricket through the DY Patil T20 Cup before playing in the ongoing IPL.
