Last month, Fabrizio Romano reported Real Sociedad had opened talks with Manchester City over the possibility of signing Sergio Gomez, and now, the Italian journalist claims the has been reached, despite a total of four clubs being interested in the 23-year-old left-back. Gomez has apparently preferred Sociedad as his destination, and his role there will be to replace Kieran Tierney in the squad, as the Scotland international is set to return to Arsenal after his loan ended.
Sociedad will pay a total fee of €9 million to get the transfer done, on top of which City will have a 15% sell-on clause, as well as a buy-back clause, included in the deal. Minor details remain to be iron out, before the papers are signed.
Gomez has made a total of 38 appearances throughout the two years of his Etihad spell, scoring no goals and contributing just two assists, but he will leave England with two Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, and one FA Cup.
