Blues react to Omorodion chaos; trio banished

Football FanCast brings you the latest Chelsea transfer round-up.

The Blues’ transfer window has been an intriguing one so far as Enzo Maresca builds his Chelsea team following his move from Leicester City. The Italian has already welcomed a raft of new players as the Blues’ desire to display their spending power shows no signs of abating despite the on and off-pitch chaos of the past few seasons.

Todd Boehly has plenty of big calls to make if they are to improve on their 2023/24 Premier League performance next term, but who else is the club eyeing up on the transfer front this summer? Here is the lowdown on the current rumours involving Chelsea.

Latest Chelsea transfer rumours

Transfers in

Samu Omorodion: Chelsea’s deal for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion is now off, despite agreeing a deal for the striker. With the clubs settling on a £34.5m fee, the deal was set to allow Conor Gallagher to move to the Spanish capital, but the collapse of the Omorodion transfer has left the Blues midfielder in limbo.

It is thought that the problems arose around the details of Omorodion’s contract, with reports in Spain claiming that the youngster was disrespected after the club tried to buy out 50% of his image rights.

Joao Felix: One potential solution to this transfer saga has been Atletico Madrid working Joao Felix into the deal. With a spell at Chelsea already under his belt, the Portuguese winger could yet return to Stamford Bridge, although this would not solve their desire to bring in a striker this month.

However, with Atletico Madrid having confirmed the signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City for £81.5m, they are understandably keen to offload a prized asset while they seek to bring in Gallagher for around £36m.

Evan Ferguson: Chelsea are rumoured to be rivalling Manchester United for a late-window move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson. The Seagulls forward has previously had a £100m price tag placed on him, though it was recently reported that the Red Devils were to test the water with a £50m bid.

However, the Blues are also expected to be in the race, perhaps especially now that their deal to sign Samu Omorodion has fallen through.

Nico Williams: With the Omorodion deal all but dead, it has been reported that Chelsea could turn to Nico Williams. Barcelona had seemed favourites to bring the Spaniard in amid uncertainties over their financial capabilities, and with Hansi Flick’s side unable to conclude anything thus far, the Blues – as well as rivals Arsenal – could end up making a late move.

Transfers out

Trevoh Chalobah: Chelsea have reportedly “banned” Trevoh Chalobah from first-team training as they look to find him a new club this summer. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have been recently mentioned as potential suitors.

The Telegraph is reporting that the former academy star is training with Chelsea’s current youngsters along with Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku, who are also heading towards the exit door.

Bashir Humphreys: Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that youngster Bashir Humphreys will leave Chelsea in some form this summer.

Leeds United were recently linked with a move for the centre-back, as well as Championship rivals Burnley and clubs from the German Bundesliga.

Armando Broja: German outfit VfB Stuttgart have emerged as a potential destination for Armando Broja, with the Bundesliga runners-up reportedly entering formal talks over a loan deal.

Everton are also thought to be showing an interest in the Albanian, who appears not to be in Enzo Maresca’s immediate plans at Stamford Bridge.

Leo Castledine: Chelsea are open to allowing youngster Leo Castledine to leave on loan this summer – but that has not stopped clubs trying to bid for a permanent deal.

Rangers recently tested Chelsea’s resolve with a loan-to-buy offer, but the Blues have remained firm as they are intent on keeping hold of his services in the long term.

Latest Chelsea transfers 2024/25

Chelsea have not held back in the window this summer, despite over two years of transfer chaos under Todd Boehly. Enzo Maresca has so far brought in over £150m of fresh talent to Stamford Bridge, including Kiernan-Dewsbury Hall, who followed him from Leicester.

His most notable addition this summer has been the deal to bring Pedro Neto to west London from Wolves. The Portuguese ace is Chelsea’s priciest buy at £54m, while they have brought another goalkeeper in the form of ex-Villarreal star Filip Jorgensen.

However, the likes of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic remain at the club – though plenty of activity is sure to take place between now and the end of the window.

The headline departure so far has been Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa, while Omari Hutchinson saw his loan move to Ipswich Town made permanent after helping the Tractor Boys secure promotion to the Premier League last term.

Balancing the books has been a key feature of their deals so far, with the departure of big earners like Hakim Ziyech a further sign of this.
