The 2024-25 NBA campaign may very well be the last hurrah for the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat, so they may want to try and go out with a bang.
That’s why Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes has labeled Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young as a potential trade acquisition for the club and has suggested that the Heat send Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson and three first-round pick swaps to the Hawks in exchange for the three-time All-Star.
Young’s stock has dipped a bit in recent years, but he remains one of the most dynamic backcourt scorers in the league and is coming off of a season in which he averaged 25.7 points, 10.8 assists and 1.3 steals over 36 minutes per game on 43.0/37.3/85.5 shooting splits.
NBA RUMORS & NEWS: Miami Heat Updates
The 26-year-old has two years remaining on his deal before his player option for the 2026-27 campaign, so he is widely viewed as a potential trade candidate with Atlanta struggling.
Young would slide in alongside of Butler to form a rather lethal duo in Miami.
It’s clear as day that the Heat need another piece to truly being considered legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference.
Could Young be the piece that they need?
NBA RUMORS & NEWS: Miami Heat Updates
For all of his defensive deficiencies, Young is a prolific offensive talent and would significantly boost a Miami offense that ranked just 21st in the NBA last season. Additionally, the Heat ranked just 18th in three-point makes last year, and Young would certainly help in that department.
Of course, the question is whether or not the Heat actually have enough to entice the Hawks into trading Young. Rozier is not exactly a great centerpiece, and Atlanta would probably want more draft capital rather than just pick swaps.
