The Los Angeles Lakers could be delivered a huge blow involving Anthony Davis.
Anthony Davis has been playing like a beast since the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. Despite Davis’ valiant efforts, the Los Angeles Lakers are barely above the .500 mark.
The Purple and Gold started the season with a perfect 3-0 start but fell to 4-3 after a surprising loss against the Detroit Pistons. Apart from the embarrassing defeat, the Lakers may soon have their hands full with a more concerning issue regarding Davis.
So far, Davis has averaged 32.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game for the Lakers. However, he is also averaging 36.3 minutes per game. Considering AD’s injury history, it’s hard to see the 2020 NBA champion continue playing at this level for long.
Speaking of which, Davis is indeed struggling with a foot injury. The 31-year-old revealed details about his injury after the 115-103 loss vs. the Pistons.
“I’ll talk to my trainer and just kind of figure out what exactly is going on,” Davis said, via ESPN. “I’ve been managing it since this summer, honestly, and my goal for every game is to be on the floor. And I just kind of landed directly on the spot that’s been killing me. So, we’ll figure it out.”
It’s concerning to see Davis struggling with an injury so early in the season. The Lakers haven’t ruled him out of their upcoming matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. But it would be wise to put him on a minutes restriction until he is 100% fit.

It’s not unheard of to make a comeback after a slow start in the NBA. But the sooner the Lakers can figure things out the better it will be for the franchise in the long haul.
A key reason behind the Lakers’ struggles is LeBron James‘ underwhelming start to the season. The King is currently averaging 21.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game.

While his numbers are solid for the oldest player in the league, the Lakers are heavily reliant on him to consistently score more than 25.0 points per game. Once James is back in the groove, it’s fair to assume that the Lakers start to play more consistently as well.
Moreover, it will allow Davis to get some rest if required. After all, the Lakers need its dynamic at its full power if they aim for a top-6 finish in the Western Conference.
