Kendrick Perkins calls out Denver Nuggets star with ‘real talk’ for leaning on Nikola Jokic

Kendrick Perkins wants to see one Denver Nuggets star take the next step and become a dominant player in the NBA regular season.

Jamal Murray was one of the stars of the NBA playoffs in 2024, stepping up for the Denver Nuggets when it mattered most.

Murray’s clutch game winner eliminated LeBron James‘ LA Lakers, and kept the Nuggets alive for another round.

The 2024-25 regular season has not been quite as splashy for the whole Nuggets organization, who were 4-3 going into their game with the unbeaten Thunder.

Speaking on the All The Smoke podcast former NBA star Kendrick Perkins said he wanted to see more from the Nuggets, specifically Murray.

Asked initially about Russell Westbrook, he flipped the conversation towards Murray.

“I’m not banking on Russ. I think Russ is gonna do some good things for them.

“Jamal Murray for me. When the ____ are we going to see, like real talk. We see it in the playoffs, but when are we really going to see it?”

He made clear that he wants to see Murray score more points, saying he must do more to support Nikola Jokic.

Murray’s highest score in a game for the Nuggets this season so far is 24.

“The new norm in the NBA is 30, right? Like, that’s the 20 of when we was actually [playing] you know what I’m saying, when we was in the league, doing our thing.

“You can’t just lean on Jokic this whole time. You supposed to be one of them boys. They let go of KCP. When are you going to take that next step? 19 points ‘ain’t getting it’.”

The Nuggets had to face the Thunder without Jamal Murray, who was ruled out of the game with an injury.

This is the third straight game Murray has missed due to a concussion, putting pressure on Christian Braun and Westbrook to step up alongside former MVP Jokic.
