Kevin Durant had high praise for the Memphis Grizzlies’ superstar.
The Memphis Grizzlies are off to a 4-4 start to the 2024-25 NBA season, though there’s reason for optimism following a 27-55 record just last year. With Ja Morant healthy, the club is quite good. During the two seasons prior to a losing record last year, the team won 50-plus games.
Having played just nine games a season ago, Morant is finally healthy for year five in the league. He’s one of the most electric players on the court outside of impacting winning in a huge way.
Recognition is going Morant’s way early in the season, too. Kevin Durant is one player to recognize the Grizzlies guard while he’s going viral on social media following his performance on Monday.
Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has been around the NBA for 18 years now. He’s seen a plethora of players in the league. However, he took to “Up & Adams” to share his praise for Morant, claiming he’s the most athletic player he’s ever seen while reacting to one of his highlights.
“My goodness. The most athletic person I’ve seen,” Durant said. “I didn’t want to give him that because he’s young and there’s been a lot of great athletes in the history of sports, but, come on now, pull that off that smooth, that easy. It’s ridiculous. He’s a top-level athlete.”
Durant’s praise is very, very high as he was teammates with Russell Westbrook — who was one of the most athletic players of his generation during his prime. Morant has a similar athleticism while providing elite highlights as Westbrook did in the past.
The Grizzlies superstar continually provides electric highlights, as he did on Monday night.
In just one game, Morant made two plays where he leaped in the air before doing a 360-degree spin and finishing at the rim. They were plays that players like John Wall were doing many years ago, though he did it twice in one night while getting great air time.

According to NBA Communications, the two highlight plays set a season record for views on an NBA video on social media posts.
“Ja Morant’s two acrobatic layups from last night’s Grizzlies-Nets game have generated 161M video views (and counting) across NBA social media. Each play stands out as the most-viewed video on NBA platforms this season,” NBA Communications reported.

For Morant to have two jaw-dropping plays that left fans in awe in the same game proves exactly why he already has the season record for social media views on a highlight.
