Gilbert Arenas wants Ja Morant to re-evaluate his major decision about the Los Angeles Lakers.
Ja Morant has never been someone who has minced his words during his young career in the NBA. If the Memphis Grizzlies superstar feels something toward a player or a team, he tends to speak up.
Morant perfectly depicted this following the Grizzlies’ recent matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. After defeating the Purple and Gold, Morant openly criticized the team. He went as far as saying that he hates the Lakers.
Over the past few years, Ja and the Lakers have developed a huge rivalry in the Western Conference. Things got over the boiling point when renowned ESPN expert Shannon Sharpe engaged in a heated altercation with Morant’s father in 2023.
Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that Morant is not a fan of the Purple and Gold. Despite knowing the history between the two sides, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas urged Morant to keep an open mind about the team.
He explained why the Grizzlies superstar should even consider joining the organization in the future.
Listen, listen, whatever you need, we can provide for you,” Arenas said, via Gil’s Arena Show on X. “If Shannon’s gotta go, Shannon’s gotta go. We can revoke his tickets if you want to come. It’s all I’m saying.”
“Whoever you don’t want in the crowd, we will do that for you. So don’t just hate the Lakers as hate. You don’t like them right now. Just keep your options open is all I’m saying.”
Arenas tried to lure Morant to the City of Angels with a lucrative bonus. Now, Sharpe is someone who has always been a huge LeBron James and Lakers supporter. Keeping that in mind, Sharpe may respond to Arenas’ unique suggestion in the near future.

To be honest, it’s hard to see Morant ever considering joining the 17-time NBA champions. But let’s say for the sake of argument that he decides to forget his history with the team.
Even then, is there any way the Lakers would consider signing Morant? Well, as far as Morant’s basketball skills are concerned, he will be a perfect fit for the Lakers.
After all, the Laker Nation loves someone as electrifying as Morant. Purple and Gold jerseys with his name on the back will be sold out in minutes.
However, this potential move cannot be fulfilled until the Lakers stick with its current duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Once the current era is over, then, the franchise may pivot toward a new generation of superstars that includes Morant.
