Milwaukee Bucks refused to make the same mistake as the LA Lakers after winning the NBA Cup

The Milwaukee Bucks wanted to make sure that they kept things steady after their NBA Cup win last night, and not get carried away.

The Milwaukee Bucks just became the second team to win the NBA Cup. After a grueling tournament, the Bucks toppled the Oklahoma City Thunder 97-81.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had a brilliant game, putting up 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists. Damian Lillard was right there as well, with 23 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

The Bucks have been absolutely phenomenal in this tournament, going undefeated, which is nearly impossible in the modern NBA format.

This tournament win wasn’t in the cards this time last month. The Bucks started the season quite poorly, going 2-8 in their first 10 games. Many felt their season was over before it even began.

But since then, the Bucks have been brilliant, going 12-3 in games that count for the regular season, and 14-3 in games including the NBA Cup semis and finals.

The Bucks have turned things around in a way that few saw coming. And there is one person in particular getting the credit for this form, with Doc Rivers’ leadership steering the team back in the right direction..

This NBA Cup win will be vindication for their turnaround this year. But they want to make sure they don’t make a mistake like last year’s winners, the Los Angeles Lakers.

After the NBA Cup win, Doc Rivers spoke with the media. He noted that they would break tradition and not celebrate with champagne or cigars.

Rivers came to this decision after speaking to current Bucks assistant and former Lakers head coach Darvin Ham.

Ham, who coached the Lakers to the inaugural NBA Cup, told Rivers that the Lakers lost focus after celebrating with champagne.

The Bucks would rather focus on the rest of the season, and not lose track of their larger goal.

With the Bucks on a brilliant run of form, they can take some confidence from this tournament. Their larger goal of winning the NBA championship is alive and well.
