ESPN expert gives ‘consensus’ view on Jimmy Butler future on Miami Heat amid trade rumors

Jimmy Butler’s saga with the Miami Heat may have just taken an interesting turn if the latest update turns out to be true.

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat seem to be nearing the end of their relationship. After five years together, the Heat might be ready to move on from Butler.

Butler has been absolutely fantastic during his time with the Heat. Across five full seasons, Butler led the Heat to three Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals.

And what makes this even more impressive is the fact that Butler did all this without a reliable All-Star-level teammate.

Over the last few weeks, there have been rumors that Jimmy Butler is on the trading block. NBA insider Shams Charania said that the team was looking to move him out.

Considering that Butler makes $48.7 million this year, and has a $52 million player option, the Heat might think it’s time to end their partnership.

The conjecture right now is that Butler will forgo his player option to enter free agency next July. And the Heat don’t want to lose him for nothing.

However, the Heat might not be ready to give up just yet. In an extensive report with ESPN, Bobby Marks noted that the Heat are more than willing to hold on to Butler unless they receive an incredible offer.

“As for Butler’s future, there is a growing consensus among the teams I talked to that unless the six-time All-Star becomes a distraction, or the Heat receive a trade offer they cannot turn down, Butler will be on the Heat’s roster once the deadline passes.”

Despite the rumors linking him with a move away, it appears the Heat are content with keeping Butler. One has to question this move, as they risk losing him for nothing in free agency.

However, this could also be the Heat trying to bolster the quality of packages they are offered. This might be a tactic to maximize Butler’s trade value.

Even with this update, the Jimmy Butler situation is one to keep an eye on. Things are moving at a fast pace, and a deal could still be imminent for Butler.
