The future of Jimmy Butler continues to be the talk of the NBA as the situation appears to be getting more and more uncomfortable.
Butler recently gave a very cryptic answer with regards to his Miami Heat future and the comments have not gone down well with President Pat Riley.
Despite Riley recently announcing that Butler would not be traded many NBA fans were left suspicious of these comments.
Following instances of “conduct detrimental to the team” Butler has been suspended for several games as the situation begins to turn messy.
While numerous teams have been linked with a move for Butler in recent weeks many have been ruled out for one reason or another.
A move to the Mavericks was ruled out by Paul Pierce while many liked the idea of Butler teaming up with Nikola Jokic at the Denver Nuggets.
However, Stephen A. Smith believes that the Phoenix Suns would be the perfect location for Butler, something that DeMarcus Cousins agrees with.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, Smith did not hesitate in suggesting who the Suns should give up to get Butler, he said: “Give up Bradley Beal! Now he has a no-trade clause but I’m just saying you gotta give up Bradley Beal.
“Bradley Beal in South Beach with his marksmanship, him, Herro and the crew, you can do some things in the East. He should be very much open to a deal like that because he would be a third option, he’d a ba top two option in Miami if he was healthy.”
Stephen A was a big fan of combining the talents of Butler, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant in Phoenix, saying: “With Devin Booker, KD [Kevin Durant], and Jimmy Butler in everybody’s face like what we gonna do. Come on now if you’re the Phoenix Suns, you’ve got to do everything you can to get your hands on Jimmy Butler.
“You talk about changing the culture of that locker room that is instantaneous impact.”
While there is no doubt in the mind of Stephen A that the Suns should give up Beal for Butler do the numbers reflect that?
Beal is known as a player who needs the ball a lot to make an impact, something which is tough when you’re playing with Booker and Durant.
Butler is able to still be effective without the ball, especially as he can do a great job guarding a team’s best player.
Bradley Beal | Jimmy Butler | |
Points | 18.2 | 17.6 |
Rebounds | 3.7 | 5.5 |
Assists | 3.1 | 4.7 |
It’s clear to see the pair are pretty evenly matched but their playing styles are very different, this is why many believe that Butler would be the perfect fit in Phoenix.
It appears Butler’s future certainly isn’t in Miami anymore so a completed deal would be beneficial for all parties.
