Victor Wembanyama ‘minimum’ career path is incredible, DeMarcus Cousins makes bold prediction, ‘I’m calling that now’

Victor Wembanyama is one of the scariest players in the NBA, taking another leap forward this season.

Playing in a struggling San Antonio Spurs team, Victor Wembanyama still won the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2023-24.

Before the 2024-25 season, Wembanyama was tipped to become a Spurs legend, and take real leap in his second season. He is doing exactly that.

Wembanyama is averaging 25.7 points per game this season, an increase from 21.4 ppg in his first season in the NBA.

Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs came up just short against the Denver Nuggets in their last game, and he received praise from reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, who backed him to be ‘remembered forever’ as a ‘special player’.

The good words keep on coming, with former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins speaking out to make a prediction about the French superstar.

Cousins told Run It Back TV that he believes that ‘at minimum’, Wembanyama can be the greatest NBA defensive player of all time.

He said: “This is something we have never seen before in this sport, this kid has it all. He can literally do whatever he wants on the basketball court, obviously the talent is there, the gift is there, its just about staying healthy throughout his career.

“There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to go down as one of the greats.

“It’s not even an argument, at minimum he will be the greatest defensive player of all time. Minimum.

“I’m calling that now, the greatest. The sky is the limit for this kid.”

Victor Wembanyama has a strong case to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2024-25, and succeed last season’s winner Rudy Gobert, who has taken a step backwards this season.

Wembanyama is the only NBA player to manage 10 blocks in a single game this season, doing so against the Trail Blazers.

He is also the only player to manage 9 blocks in a game this season, doing so against the Clippers.

Wemby is one of two players to block 8 attempts in a game this season, matched by the Blazers’ Donovan Clingan.

And just as impressively, he is the only player to manage 7 blocks in a NBA game this season, doing so twice.

These numbers are simply incredible, and testament to what Wembanyama is capable of defensively, while offensively he is hitting new heights, scoring his first 50-pointer earlier this season.

At only 21-years-old, Wembanyama is playing at a remarkably high level, and has a scarily high ceiling.
