After being cut by LA Lakers, Quincy Olivari re-signs with a familiar team

There could be a route back to the LA Lakers for guard Quincy Olivari.

Quincy Olivari was one of the feel good stories for the LA Lakers in pre-season. But he had struggled to convince head coach JJ Redick to give him a chance once the season began.

After playing only two games, Quincy Olivari was cut to make way for the Lakers to sign center Trey Jemison, who has already played in two games since his arrival.

Olivari was disappointed to be waived, and said he would in particular miss learning from LeBron James.

A week after being waived, Quincy Olivari has found a new team. He has signed with the South Bay Lakers.

Joining the LA Lakers’ G League affiliate gives Olivari a potential route back onto his former team, although he does not currently have a two-way contract, like he did previously.

For Lakers fans disappointed to cut Olivari in the first place, this is the best possible outcome.

But it is somewhat disappointing for Olivari that he did not get a shot on a team where he could play some NBA minutes.

Earlier in the season, Olivari was described as ‘too good for the G League’ by now former teammate D’Angelo Russell.

He was putting up consistent points for the South Bay Lakers, averaging 18.1 points per game.

During his time in college, Olivari put up ‘one of the great seasons’ for Xavier, and still only 23-years-old, the undrafted rookie will hope his second spell in the G League will eventually lead back to the NBA, whether with the Lakers or not.
