Jimmy Butler faces another suspension, his third in 2025 already.
After being suspended in early January for seven games, Jimmy Butler made a brief return – and did not play well.
Butler was then suspended for two more games, after being late for a team flight. Now he has been suspended for a third time.
The Miami Heat have issued a statement on Jimmy Butler, explaining the latest decision.
The statement reads: “The Miami HEAT are suspending Jimmy Butler without pay effective immediately for an indefinite period to last no fewer than five games.
“The suspension is due to a continued pattern of disregard of team rules, engaging in conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services. This includes walking out of practice earlier today.”
Shams Charania tells ESPN that Butler walked out after being told he would not be starting for the team.
Butler is desperate to be traded by Miami, and he may have played his final game for the team.
The five game suspension, if completed, will run through to February 6, the NBA trade deadline. The timing of this is no coincidence.
It looks like the very end for Butler on the Heat.
The Miami Heat’s season has been overshadowed by the drama over Jimmy Butler. And that has been reflected in their 22-22 record.
Leading into the upcoming game with the Magic, there were questions over whether Butler would play, or whether he wouldn’t, and then how he would play.
Now all those uncertainties are removed, and the Heat can focus on basketball, and there are clearly improvements to make there.
Whether Butler gets his dream move to Phoenix remains to be seen, or if the Heat play dirty and deal the player out with a nightmare move like a trade with the Wizards.
