One of the complaints about the modern day NBA is that it is too squeaky clean.
Earlier this season Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla suggested to fix the problem by permitting fights on the court – similar to ice hockey.
And when there are fights like the Tyler Herro vs Houston Rockets flare-up, or Naji Marshall punching Jusuf Nurkic, they certainly attract attention.
But probably a step too far even for Joe Mazzulla, is to have MMA legend Conor McGregor thrown into the mix.
Former UFC fighter Conor McGregor was at the Utah Jazz vs Milwaukee Bucks game, a 125-110 victory for the road team.
And towards the end of the second quarter, McGregor was walking past the Bucks bench, when he shook hands and had a little chat with Brook Lopez, who was seated.
In good spirits, 7ft 1″ Lopez stood up to stare down McGregor, towering over the 5ft 8″ Irishman.
Speaking after the game as reported via Eric Nehm on X, Brook Lopez joked about the events that transpired with McGregor.
He explained: “He asked me how tall I was. I let him know. He asked me to stand up and I did. And I knew at that point once I got up, I had to size him up.
“I had to do a little something. I’ve seen the face-offs before, so I knew I had to do my part.”
He jokingly discussed fight with McGregor, suggesting that teammate Damian Lillard can be his promoter.
Lopez explained: “Now, if something’s going to happen, maybe Dame can be my promoter or Dame can be my manager or whatever, teach me to fight because I got nothing.
“I got nothing. So I’m really going to rely on Dame for that.”
On the court, Lopez did what was required of him against the 10-34 Jazz, scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
It was a night where the great Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated once again, going 35-18-7, while teammate Lillard helped himself to 35 points of his own too, with 5 rebounds and 8 assists.
