The Los Angeles Lakers are heading towards a moment of truth in the playoffs where they will find out truly how good their roster is.
With less than two weeks left before the NBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers are yet to make another significant swing to improve their odds to win it all
LeBron James already aired cryptic comments about the team’s roster which drew mixed reaction. On his own, Anthony Davis even offered a recent desperate call for the Lakers to add an additional center.
But Rob Pelinka and the rest of L.A. leadership are yet to move following the Dorian Finney-Smith trade, seemingly hesitant to pull the trigger and go for an all-out push in assembling the best possible Lakers team.
The Lakers’ decision-making from now and until the foreseeable future carries huge implications on LeBron James.
Now at age 40 and likely heading towards his last dance sooner rather than later, the Lakers really need to capitalize on having the superstar available.
But the team’s lack of significant effort and past seasons’ roster building failure have wasted LeBron’s chances to add to his four championship rings. And this 2024-25 could be another lost season for them amid lackluster initiative to make a big move, despite reported interests in several players.
For this, Udonis Haslem offered an honest question directed to James in the latest segment of The OGs Podcast.
He explained: “The question for him is gonna be honestly, because he’s been to the mountaintop and he won championships.
“Is it worth it if I really don’t have a championship roster around me? And I think that would be the question that he has to ask himself every year,” Haslem said to his former Miami Heat teammate.
“To no fault of JJ [Redick], that’s just not a championship roster. That’s just reality.”
“So the question that ‘Bron is going to have to ask himself is if they don’t put a championship roster around him and AD, does he still want to do it?”
As of now, the Lakers are sitting as the No. 5 team in the West with 26-19. But by acknowledging the intense seeding in the West, several losses could lead them down to the Play-In Tournament and even out of contention.
Should the Lakers come up short once again, James’s plans for his future will be compelling to monitor in the midst of the franchise’s plans.
Many have thought that upon achieving his historic dream of sharing the court with son Bronny James, he already reached contentment in his NBA career.
Yet as an all-time great who remains in prime to perform at a high level, it’s truly conflicting on whether James is still gunning for another championship or not.
Haslem added: “Because what else is he doing? He’s got the records. Like now, I’m playing for a championship because I know what that feels like. That’s the only thing [he should have in mind].
“Going home in the Finals losing doesn’t make me feel good.”
