LeBron James issues firm statement on future with LA Lakers after Luka Doncic trade, ‘I would have…’

LeBron James did not hold back when asked about his Lakers future in the aftermath of the Luka Doncic trade.

The Los Angeles Lakers trading for Luka Doncic is arguably the biggest move in NBA history. The Lakers now have the greatest player of his generation teaming with a future Hall of Famer.

Some analysts were critical of the move. Charles Barkley, in particular, thinks LeBron James and Luka Doncic will not work well as a pair.

With Anthony Davis leaving, some wondered whether LeBron James would follow suit. However, analysts have clarified that the Lakers want LeBron James to mentor Luka Doncic.

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the L.A. Clippers, the King spoke candidly about his plans for the future.

Speaking after his 26-point performance against the Clippers, LeBron James shut down any speculation. He noted that he had no reason to leave, and if he wanted to, he could waive his no-trade clause.

“What’s wrong with that? If I had any concerns I would have waived my no-trade clause and got up out of here.”

“I’m here right now, and I’m committed to the Lakers organization. I’m here to help Luka and Maxi make the transition as smooth as possible… It’s my job to make it as seamless as possible.”

It appears that James does not want to leave the Lakers. While some were concerned that the Lakers prioritizing Luka Doncic over James would cause him to exit, he wants to stay and help Luka acclimate.

The Los Angeles Lakers have two of the best players in the NBA on their roster. But as Lakers legend Kobe Bryant famously once said, “job is not finished.”

They need to upgrade their roster, especially at the center spot. Jeff Teague believes the Lakers should trade for Clint Capela.

Dwight Howard wants to take one step forward, pitching a trade for the Lakers to land Kevin Durant. That trade seems unlikely, but the Lakers do need to make a move.

The franchise will likely consult with LeBron James on center options, which they didn’t when they made the trade for Doncic.
