Charlotte Hornets break silence with intriguing statement after Mark Williams trade gets voided by Lakers

The talk in town in the NBA right now is suddenly the Charlotte Hornets.

In an unforeseen turn of events, the Los Angeles Lakers, announced that they rescinded their acquisition of Williams from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, an unprotected 2031 first-round pick, and a 2030 first-round pick swap.

The Lakers proclaimed that the Hornets did not meet conditions of the trade and that Williams failed to meet his physical exams out of multiple issues during the transaction’s finalization process.

With the trade now voided with the Lakers, the Hornets are now in a perplexing spot about how they will embrace Mark Williams, when just two days ago when they sent the big man to Los Angeles. In fact, several fans and experts were already thrilled about Williams wearing a purple and gold uniform, only for the deal to be made invalid.

But in the end, the team holds no choice but to welcome the 23-year-old NBA center with open arms.

In an official statement on X (Formerly Twitter) right after the deal gets voided, the Hornets expressed enthusiasm about their unexpected reunion with Williams, noting that they are excited to see how he will contribute for them once again.

The statement states: “We are excited to welcome Mark back to our Hornets organization. After the other team aggressively pursued Mark, we made the difficult decision to move him.

“We have always held great respect for Mark’s talent, work ethic, and character. We are thrilled to see him rejoin our roster as a dynamic presence at the starting center position.

“His return strengthens our team, and we look forward to the impact he will make on and off the court.”

It is actually an intriguing statement from the Hornets. When the trade took place, there were several reports that the Hornets have engaged with the Lakers and offered Williams out of the team’s desperate hunt for a center in the wake of Anthony Davis’s departure from the Luka Doncic mega deal.

Nevertheless, the Hornets can’t be more excited to bring Williams back to their group.

Before they shipped him to the Lakers, the Hornets were savoring the best season of Williams’ career. The former Duke sensation is averaging career highs in points (15.6), assists (2.6), and blocks (1.2) while pulling down 9.6 boards across 23 games thus far.

After an NBA expert suggested that their franchise superstar should be upset that Williams got dealt, Charlotte can simply be happy that they will witness the return of their starting big and continue considering him as a part of their long-term plans.
