The Brooklyn Nets are having a tough season in the Eastern Conference but Trendon Walker has named one of his teammates the top scorer he’s ever played with.
Despite winning six of their last seven games the Nets remain with a struggling 20-34 record all but putting an end to their playoff chances.
To add insult to injury the Nets are likely to be without Bojan Bogdanovic for the remainder of the season with the star set to undergo ankle surgery.
While things may not be going to plan for the Nets this season they certainly have a talent in the form of Cam Thomas, a player that has earned high praise from Watford.
Thomas has been another huge miss for the Nets having made just 19 appearances this season after suffering from a left hamstring injury. He’s missed the past 20 games.
The star is expected to be back in the coming weeks in what will be a major boost for a Nets side which are shooting just 44.1% in the season, the fourth lowest in the league. Thomas alone is shooting 44.8%.
Thomas will no doubt improve their offensive numbers considering his impressive 24.7 points per game average this year.
His offensive ability has been highly praised by Waterford who has put him above Damian Lillard for his shooting ability, saying: “He’s probably number one on my list. I mean I’ve played with Dame but he’s probably number one.
“There’s ways that he can score man, he’s different in the way he can get to the line and manipulate the defense and he’s probably one of the best scorers in the league but you can’t tell him that, we know what CT does.”
While the Nets season may be over before it truly ever started this year they should be looking to the future.
The loss of Dennis Schroder was a huge loss to the team and they should be desperately looking to keep hold of Thomas who has shown improvement year-on-year.
2021-22 | 2022-23 | 2023-24 | 2024-25 | |
Points | 8.5 | 10.6 | 22.5 | 24.7 |
Rebounds | 2.4 | 1.7 | 3.2 | 3.6 |
Assists | 1.2 | 1.4 | 2.9 | 3.4 |
Thomas has been linked with a trade away from the Nets to bring in further assets to deepen the squad but they should learn from the Schroder trade that it may be more beneficial to keep hold of a thriving star.
D’Angelo Russell’s return to the Nets is yet to truly pay off but alongside a fully fit Thomas the pair will certainly cause problems for opposition defenses.
A likely high-draft pick will also help the side build for the future, they have some solid pieces already in place, but they now need to keep them and build.
