Franchise legend could be set to make his comeback to the Timberwolves in an intriguing role

The Minnesota Timberwolves could soon witness the comeback of their beloved all-time legend, in an intriguing role.

According to Charley Walters of The St. Paul Pioneer Press, it is widely expected that Kevin Garnett will return to the team and join the Minnesota Timberwolves’ leadership brass for a front-office position.

This move will materialize for Garnett once Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore officially seize full control of the majority ownership of the Timberwolves organization.

In the midst of the team’s ongoing 2024-25 season, led by the brilliance of Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves have also seen a rollercoaster of events recently with regards to their ownership.

Lore and Rodriguez are engaged in a legal battle with the current team governor Glen Taylor about the full control of the Minnesota franchise.

The duo, who reached an agreement to buy the Timberwolves in an installment plan in 2021, was flagged by Taylor for missing a payment deadline. Taylor eventually pulled out from the transfer of ownership, compelling Lore and Rodriguez to begin court proceedings.

An arbitration was conducted to resolve the issue between both sides. And just earlier this month, the arbitrators favored Lore and Rodriguez to take full ownership of the franchise.

Garnett, the former superstar of the Timberwolves who carried them for 13 seasons between 1995 and 2007, notably animosity towards Taylor.

It all started when the Hall of Famer left the Timberwolves for the Boston Celtics, with Taylor accusing Garnett of tanking his value. And when Garnett returned to Minnesota in 2015, he was promised to join the team’s management. This did not happen upon his retirement a year later.

The 48-year-old also did not like how Taylor and the organization handled the tribute for Flip Saunders, his beloved mentor, who passed away a decade ago due to Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

In a 2020 interview for The Athletic, Garnett didn’t hold back expressing his disgustment over Taylor, noting that he “don’t do business with snakes.”

With Lore and Rodriguez set for an ownership takeover, Garnett has an opportunity to finally return to the Timberwolves and repair his relationship with the franchise, where his No. 21 jersey also could finally be raised in the Target Center rafters.
