Fight canceled after no-show on scale

LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC Fight Night 253 (ESPN+) fighter weigh-ins at the host hotel.

Among those weighing in were flyweights Manel Kape (20-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and Asu Almabayev (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who meet in the main event, and Cody Brundage (10-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) and Julian Marquez (9-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) who fight in the middleweight co-feature. All the prominent fighters made weight.

There were some issues on the undercard, however. Lucas Almeida was heavy for his featherweight prelim with Danny Silva, while Luana Carolina failing to step on the scale for her women’s flyweight bout with Montana De La Rosa due to weight management issues led to the contest being called off.
