LeBron James created NBA history when he reached the 50,000 career points mark.
No other player in basketball history has achieved what LeBron James has just managed. Wilt Chamberlain has his 100-point game, Michael Jordan has his 6-0 run in NBA Finals, but neither of them have managed to clock up 50,000 points.
It is a testament to LeBron James’ physical and mental strength that he is still scoring points in his 22nd season in the league, truly remarkable longevity.
And this is no retirement tour. LeBron James is one of the best players in the league still at 40, and getting genuine MVP calls for his high standard of play.
LeBron James reaching 50,000 points is a stunning accomplishment. It was one nobody thought possible, and he is not done yet. One teammate made his record-breaking night even better.
LeBron’s son Bronny James came off the bench to score two points for the LA Lakers in their 136-115 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Bronny James’ presence and contribution on LeBron’s big night underscored the magnitude of what he managed to achieve.
LeBron scored his 50,000th point and saw his son come onto the court to score two points of his own. That is just an insane accomplishment for a player.
It demonstrates LeBron’s enduring ability that at 40, he is leading his team in points on a night he posted 34, and his 20-year-old son comes on to score another 2 of his own.
It is something no other player has managed. LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo to share a court when the second-round draft pick made his NBA debut for the Lakers last October.
LeBron James’ astronomic numbers have left the NBA world stunned, with teammate Luka Doncic joking that he could go on and reach 70,000 if he carries on.
Speaking post-game, LeBron said: “I’m not going to sugar-coat it – it’s a hell of a lot of points.
“I’m super blessed to be able to put up that many points in my career in the best league in the world and against the best players in the world – it’s pretty special.”
Another of the top NBA players in the game today is Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is just celebrating passing 20,000 points, and wants to end his career with more than 30,000.
LeBron’s 50,000 are a truly ridiculous number, and getting to mark it on the court with Bronny was the icing on the cake.
