Ja Morant is under investigation from the NBA following the Memphis Grizzlies loss to the Golden State Warriors.
The Memphis Grizzlies defeat to the Golden State Warriors was their third successive loss under new interim coach Tuomas Iisalo.
The loss sent the Grizzlies down into sixth in the Western Conference, and the problems are beginning to pile up.
Star player Ja Morant had a strong game, a stunning 36 points, his second highest scoring game of the season.
Unfortunately his scoring feats are not getting the attention they warrant, after his finger-pointing celebration, a controversial gesture that left fans concerned.
Following the Grizzlies’ 134-125 loss to the Warriors, the NBA have opened an investigation into the incident involving Ja Morant.
ESPN report Morant is under investigation for ‘using his hands and arms to mimic shooting a gun’.
The channel’s Stephen A. Smith has expressed his unhappiness at the league investigation, claiming it is totally uncalled for.
He posted on X: “Come on @NBA — and the rest of us. Totally unnecessary. Let @JaMorant play in peace.
“Let’s not look for things. The playoffs are about to begin. Let’s enjoy the games. Morant didn’t do anything flagrant. Folks are reaching now.”
The Memphis Grizzlies could do without more negative attention right now, although the Ja Morant situation might distract from their slide in form.
Last week they fired head coach Taylor Jenkins, with GM Zach Kleiman insisting he felt it the best move for the organization.
Memphis have since lost three games in a row and are at risk of sliding out of the top six seeds and down into the Play-In tournament.
If Ja Morant is suspended and forced to miss games, it would make their upcoming task even tougher.
