Manchester United have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a number of sources, with the 25-year-old reacting positively to the opening talks on the matter.

United have explained their project to the player and his representatives, and the proposed personal terms are being discussed at the moment. On the other hand, the two clubs are yet to discuss a deal, and it is believed United will be forced to trigger the £62.5million release clause in Cunha’s contract to get the transfer done, with Wolves unwilling to sell under any other circumstances.

United’s current striker options, namely Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have a combined output of 15 goals across all competitions this season, one less than Cunha alone, and their need to upgrade in that department is rather obvious. They will, however, need to act decisively, with other clubs looking at the Brazil international as well.
