Liverpool in advanced Frimong talks

According to several sources, Liverpool have approached Bayer Leverkusen to discuss the structure of payment for the release clause in the contract of Jeremie Frimpong. Reports about the amount set in the clause vary between €35-40million. The former Manchester City youth player is believed to be very keen on moving to Anfield, and Liverpool are already in advanced talks with his representatives over personal terms of a five-year contract.

Frimpong’s arrival at Anfield would mean Liverpool boss Arne Slot wants Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold to be replaced by a similar player, with a more notable attacking contribution than the defensive one. The 24-year-old is, however, more known for his pace and ability to dribble past opponents on the right flank, than his passing, which is where he differs from Alexander-Arnold.

In 48 matches across all competitions this term, Frimpong has scored five goals and produced 12 assists.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold was booed as he came on to replace Conor Bradley in the 67th minute of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday at Anfield.
