Arsenal ahead of Manchester United in Gyokeres race

According to TalkSport, Arsenal are leading the race for the signature of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of Manchester United.

Both Premier League clubs have expressed interest in the Sweden international, but the fact that Arsenal can offer Champions League football next season and Manchester United cannot, on top of the Gunners’ likelihood of being involved in a title race, appears to be a major factor in Gyokeres’s thinking.

Sporting are expected to hold their ground in terms of transfer demands, but there has been a fallout between the club and the 27-year-old striker and his departure from the Portuguese capital seems imminent at this point. His agent hinted at a “gentleman’s agreement” over a £60million fee, but now Sporting want significantly more than that to part ways with the player who scored 54 goals and produced 13 assists in just 52 games in 2024/25.

Arsenal are still contemplating whether to move for Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, having opened talks with the Bundesliga side as well, but at the moment, Gyokeres seems the likelier choice.
