Cam Thomas addresses his future situation with the Brooklyn Nets, explains what he ‘definitely’ wants

Cam Thomas has been a consistently promising player for the Brooklyn Nets. He dealt with injuries during the 2024-25 season, but he showed potential as a go-to guy. With his restricted free agency coming up in the summer of 2025, he wants to stay.

Most NBA fans projected the Brooklyn Nets to be one of the league’s worst teams in the 2024-25 season. Fortunately for the Nets, they surpassed the 19.5-win projections from before the season started.

It was not the best record by any means, but the Nets showed they had potential with the current squad. The Nets’ go-to guy, Cam Thomas, only played 25 games, but he was superb with his scoring. The Nets could have competed for a Play-In Tournament spot if he were fully healthy.

With his status as a restricted free agent, Thomas wants to sign an extension with the team that drafted him. Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez sees plenty of potential from the young guard.

Thomas won’t have any issues re-signing with the Nets, as he loves the organization and city. However, he must assess all of his options because it is the smart thing to do. However, his heart is in Brooklyn, which is a good sign for Nets fans.

On the list of players to watch in the free agency market, Thomas is one of the most promising. He has a natural knack for scoring, especially with his self-created shots. That is a special asset to have in a league with lockdown defenders on almost every team.

Since the Nets will give him the green light to score, it is a good spot for him to stay. Fernandez loves his game, which bodes well for the future.

However, the decision regarding his contract will hinge on his agents’ decisions. Of course, Thomas will have a say, so his love for Brooklyn could make him stay.

“I definitely, definitely want to be back in Brooklyn. It’s definitely home for me.

“Being drafted there, you definitely build bonds with a lot of people there. So I definitely love it there,” Thomas said on WKTR News 3.

“But at the same time, you have to do what’s best for you in the business aspects. So I have to play that by ear, but I definitely want to be back for sure. I definitely love Brooklyn.”

Since Brooklyn is rebuilding, they want a player to stay with the team for the long-term future. Thomas is the best candidate to build the team around because he is already a lethal scorer. He will continue to improve his game, including his defense and playmaking.

Every party will benefit from the Nets locking him down to a significant contract extension. Thomas would love the stability, while the Nets have a go-to scorer who can score 25+ points every game. He has always stated he wants to stay with the team, which should be a good sign.

The rest of the team still needs work, but having Thomas as one of the foundational pieces is good. Nets general manager Sean Marks wants the players to keep developing while empowering Fernandez.

Rebuilding can be challenging, but signing Thomas to an extension should be an easy decision. As long as Thomas and the rest of the team keep growing, the Nets could become a top team.
