Two players the Washington Wizards are willing to trade up for in the NBA Draft

The Washington Wizards are a team that have not enjoyed a great deal of success in recent years.

For the fourth year running, the team finished outside the playoff spots and in two of those seasons they have finished in the bottom two of the Eastern Conference standings.

Despite a 15th place finish last season, the Washington Wizards only managed to get the sixth pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

They also have the 18th pick, but the array of talent is expected to be in the Top 10, which is why the team is assessing its options to maximise their picks and continue their rebuild.

According to Grant Afseth, the Wizards have offered teams great deals to move up in the draft for players like Dylan Harper and Jeremiah Fears.

The 2025 NBA Draft is one of the most exciting ones in recent times as apart from the top pick, a lot can change.

Cooper Flagg completed his visit with the Dallas Mavericks and unless there is any other major obstacle, he is expected to be drafted by them with the number one pick.

The Number two pick belongs to the San Antonio Spurs and he is believed to have impressed the organisation.

Wizards have offered a few surprising names as part of the deal to trade up, but the Spurs want to build with Harper.

Afseth wrote: “Holding picks No. 6 and 18 in the first round, the Wizards have explored trade-up scenarios in hopes of securing one of the top backcourt prospects, league sources told RG.

“Washington has made multiple offers to teams in the top five in an effort to land either Dylan Harper or Jeremiah Fears, even being willing to part with surprising names to move up to No. 2 overall.

“Thus far, those attempts have been rebuffed,” he added.

Fears is another player who the Wizards are looking at and according to ESPN‘s latest mock draft, the former Oklahoma point guard could go at seven to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The mock draft also suggests Ace Bailey would be the player that the Wizards would end up picking, but he has refused to meet with the organisation alongside Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets.

If Fears or Bailey do not get picked until sixth, the Wizards would go for one of them.

They are both young and exciting, which is why drafting them will give the Wizards much needed stability they need at the point guard position.

Reports have suggested that the Wizards are only linked with moves for a point guard in the draft.

With Malcolm Brogdon injured, it was Jordan Poole who played the role last season.

He averaged 20.5 PPG, but also had 3 turnovers per game and the team did not benefit from him playing as the point guard.

Marcus Smart can play the position, but he has a player option and it seems unlikely that the former Defensive Player of the Year would want to return.

This is one of the reasons why the franchise is focused on bringing in a guard as that is a priority position.

The Wizards are rebuilding, and the expectation is that they do so with a young core through the draft.

This is one of the reasons why the team will not hesitate and even trade their key players to move up and bring the best prospect to the roster.
