Chet Holmgren responds after learning he set all-time NBA Finals Game 7 record in OKC Thunder win

The Oklahoma City Thunder are celebrating winning the NBA Championship, and setting all kinds of records in the process.

While the Tyrese Haliburton injury overshadowed NBA Finals Game 7, the Oklahoma City Thunder were deserving winners.

OKC were the best team in the NBA in the regular season, and they will be a fearsome team to go up against next time around too.

The Thunder are a young team with a ton of assets to further improve and turn this one win into a dynasty.

Chet Holmgren set an NBA record for the most amount of blocks in a Finals Game 7 in history, with five in total.

Told about the impressive statistic after the game, Holmgren admitted: “That surprises me.”

Asked further, he added: “Honestly, I never really play for records. I never play for stats. All that will be forgotten. But us winning is forever. It’s immortal. I’m just so happy we were able to do that together as a team.

“I am surprised that five blocks is the most in a Game 7. I guess there haven’t been that many Game 7s, but I don’t know.

“Feel like I could have had more tonight. Could have been better there. But we won, so that’s all that matters.”

The second overall pick in the 2022 Draft, Chet Holmgren is now an NBA champion for the first time in his career, and he played a key part.

Holmgren scored 18 points in Game 7, the third highest scoring contributor in the title-winning game, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (29) and Jalen Williams (20).

Holmgren’s numbers from the game saw him grab eight rebounds along with his five blocks, with Isaiah Hartenstein leading with nine rebounds. He shot efficiently, scoring 6 of 8 from the field, also contributing one steal.

He says he is not motivated by statistics and records, only championship rings. Now he has his first, with possibly many more to come.
