Sources: Four clubs ready to move for €70m Liverpool star as another transfer has collapsed

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez’s transfer to Napoli has now officially been shelved, with new clubs weighing up a move for the Uruguay international.

The Reds are open to selling Nunez, but are sticking to their asking price of €70m, sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside.

Nunez has struggled to find his best form at Liverpool, but he’s not been short of suitors this summer as clubs still view him as someone with the potential to succeed outside of the Premier League.

Sources have confirmed to CaughtOffside that the “strongest interest” comes from Saudi Pro League clubs Al Hilal and Al Nassr.

However, it is also understood that Barcelona and AC Milan are keeping an eye on the situation and weighing up moves for the 26-year-old.

Darwin Nunez still likely to leave Liverpool

Napoli long looked the favourites for Nunez, with the player having also been keen to make the move there, as Alfredo Pedulla wrote for CaughtOffside yesterday.

That deal is now off, but LFC still look likely to part ways with Nunez as long as the money is right.

It remains to be seen if Barca or Milan can afford the player, however, with neither club making formal approaches just yet.

It will be interesting to see how this develops, but Saudi clubs probably seem the most likely to be able to meet Liverpool’s demands, though it’s not yet clear if Nunez himself would go there or favour a move to another European club.

Liverpool to replace Darwin Nunez with Hugo Ekitike

Nunez hasn’t really been good enough for Liverpool despite previously impressing at Benfica, so it looks like it’s time to make a change up front.

As reported by the Athletic and others, the Merseyside giants are now advancing on a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 23-year-old Frenchman finished last season with 33 goal contributions in all competitions, so looks like an ideal upgrade on Nunez.
