Newcastle reject initial Liverpool bid for Isak

According to numerous sources, Newcastle have rejected Liverpool’s initial official bid for Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old striker has been a target for the Premier League champions for a while now, and it is believed Anfield is his destination of choice. He has rejected Newcastle’s offer of a new contract with improved terms and made his wish to leave St. James’s Park clear.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is said to have informed Newcastle that the Merseysiders would be willing to go up to £120million for Isak, but the Magpies have been standing firm on their stance that the Sweden international is not for sale throughout this saga. However, it is also believed that they value Isak at £150million, and that they would accept such an offer.

Different stories are circulating as to what happens next. Some believe a deal is more likely to happen than not, with Liverpool set to return with a second bid soon, but others say the Reds won’t be making that second bid – they have placed their offer on the table and are keeping it there, but it’s an offer of a “take it or leave it” kind.

Also, there have been claims that Newcastle have informed Isak he would not be leaving unless they manage to secure a suitable replacement. To that end, they’ve been linked with a host of names: Benjamin Sesko, Ollie Watkins, Jorgen Strand Larsen, and others.
