LA Lakers looking at bringing in another career double-double scorer to the team

The LA Lakers are closely looking at bringing in another player who has averaged a double-double for his career.

After adding three players in NBA free agency, the LA Lakers are once again expected to be back in the market.

Luka Doncic recently gave a hint about signing a contract extension with the team and once that happens, they could once again be looking for a player.

After having recruited Deandre Ayton to the center position, the team is looking at a two-time All-Star after he has been rumored to move away from his team.

Nikola Vucevic had a brilliant season with the Chicago Bulls as he averaged 18.5 PPG and 10.1 RPG, while shooting 40.2% from beyond the arc.

He was in trade talks throughout the season, but a deal with another team was never reached, which led to him staying with the Bulls.

The team moved on from Zach LaVine last season and Lonzo Ball almost a month ago. It seems likely that Vucevic could be the next player who they trade for assets.

His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, which means the Bulls would want to trade him away as soon as they can.

If the team is not able to find a good offer for him, Vucevic is expected to be a leading contender in the buyout market.

Anthony Irwin reported that the Lakers were one of the teams closely looking at his situation with the Bulls.

Irwin said: “This does leave a few interesting free agents still, not even including eventual buyout candidates like Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic. As they did with Smart, the Lakers are closely monitoring that situation.

Rob Pelinka had promised the Lakers would make a move for a center in the offseason after their first-round exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

After a lot of talks, they finally brought Ayton to the roster.

Ayton is also a career double-double scorer, and although his game is a little different from Vucevic, they are both offensively brilliant.

Season Nikola Vucevic Points Nikola Vucevic Rebounds Deandre Ayton Points Deandre Ayton Rebounds
2024-25 18.5 10.1 14.4 10.2
2023-24 18 10.5 16.7 11.1
2022-23 17.6 11 18 10

However, having both of them as center options will weaken their defensive solidity in the center position.

Jaxson Hayes was retained by the team, but even he is not the best defensive option and if the Lakers want another big, they will have to look for someone who is a rim protector.

Irwin reported the team was looking at Robert Williams III, but his injury record is worrying.

He has not played 65 games in his NBA career and although the talent is there for everyone to see, Williams will be a high risk signing for them.
