Patrick Beverley says New York Knicks have a Georges Niang type player who can make a difference

Patrick Beverley has compared New York Knicks’ newest player to NBA veterans Georges Niang and Grant Williams.

The New York Knicks made some big changes in the offseason, including firing head coach Tom Thibodeau.

After a month-long search, they appointed Mike Brown as his successor, which has given hope to a lot of Knicks fans.

The team also made some big moves in free agency, including signing players like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.

Patrick Beverley previously pointed out how important Clarkson was going to be for the Knicks and he has now also given his opinion on Yabusele.

Yabusele moved to the New York Knicks after spending one season with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he was one of the most impressive players for them.

He averaged 11 points per game and grabbed 5.6 rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field.

Yabusele moved to the Knicks as he was not pleased with the 76ers’ contract offer.

Beverley compared Yabusele to Niang and Grant Williams, who are both role players, but stated Yabusele was more athletic.

“Yabusele is gonna help. I think he’s gonna have a role. He gives me that Grant Williams, Georges Niang vibe,” Beverley added. “Probably a little bit more athletic than those guys, he does help them second-unit-wise. He’s the captain on the French national team too, put a bit of respect on his name.”

The three-time All-Defensive Team member was asked if the Knicks had it in them to make it past the Eastern Conference Finals, he said: “Yes they should. I think he [Mike Brown] can.”

The Knicks had a lot of question marks last season as they did not manage to secure wins against teams higher in the standings.

But they answered all their critics with brilliant performances in the playoffs. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but struggled to get going against the Indiana Pacers.

Jalen Brunson was relied on heavily by the team and he delivered, averaging 29.4 points per game, while Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 21.4 points and Mikal Bridges contributed with 15.6 in the postseason.

While these may seem decent for a trio, consistency was the problem with Towns and Bridges.

Knicks bench options position wise Players
Point Guard Jordan Clarkson
Shooting Guard Miles McBride
Small Forward Tyler Kolek
Power Forward Guerschon Yabusele
Center Mitchell Robinson

Brunson did well, but the other players were not able to step up to the intensity in the later rounds of the playoffs.

With the additions of Yabusele and Clarkson, the Knicks have essentially strengthened their bench as both can do a phenomenal job of taking the contribution of the bench to the next level.

With players like Miles McBride, Tyler Kolek and Mitchell Robinson, the Knicks already have a strong bench. But the duo of Clarkson and Yabusele elevate the roster and if the Knicks go deep into the playoffs, these two could prove to be the difference for them.
