Anthony Hernandez brought some drama to the UFC Vegas 109 weigh-ins.
One half of Saturday’s middleweight main event, Hernandez weighed in at 186.5 pounds on his first attempt at Friday’s official weigh-ins, half a pound over the limit for a non-title bout (which includes a one-pound allowance). His opponent Roman Dolidze successfully weighed in at 185.5 pounds.
Because Hernandez weighed in in the first hour, he was eligible to weigh in a second time with clearance from the commission. Hernandez showed up again in the second hour and hit the mark at 186 pounds.
Two other fighters missed weight on their first attempts, bantamweight Joselyne Edwards (136.25) and flyweight Julija Stoliarenko (126.25). Weight-cutting issues are nothing new for Edwards and Stoliarenko, but they made good use of their second attempts to beat the scale with both fighters using the extra time allowed to shave off a quarter of a pound.
Also of note, one-time flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg makes his UFC bantamweight debut to accommodate Ode Osbourne, a fellow 125-pound competitor who is stepping in to Saturday’s co-main event on short notice.
