‘That doesn’t sound enjoyable’… NBA fans are in agreement after Shams Charania breaks silence on life as an insider

ESPN’s Shams Charania is the NBA’s most renowned insider right now.

It’s evident from Shams Charania’s footprints on most major developments around the NBA.

Be it Jonathan Kuminga’s situation with the Golden State Warriors or Trae Young’s feelings on the Atlanta Hawks, Charania has insight on every major discussion in the league.

How could anyone forget Charania breaking the shocking Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, right? However, what is the trade-off for being the first to report every huge NBA news?

Until September of 2024, Charania faced incredible competition from Adrian Wojnarowski as an insider. However, with Woj’s retirement, Shams is the undisputed No. 1 NBA Insider.

That may be the case right now, but Charania has given up on a plethora of things that your average Joe would enjoy in life.

“I’ve had to walk out on dates. I’ve had to walk out on a lot of social events. My friends don’t really like me. So, it’s very hard to have a consistent relationship because it’s a cycle,” Charania said (h/t Oh No He Didn’t).

He added: “You know the time that requires and you know the time that they deserve, rightfully. And there are just moments where I’m just always gonna choose this [being an insider].”

So, that’s what Charania does on a nightly basis to ensure never being late on breaking stories about the NBA.

While Charania puts in an impressive amount of work to remain the NBA’s top insider, fans on X weren’t really impressed by the ESPN analyst’s revelation.

“Basically copy/paste tweet how hard can it be,” one fan wrote. While another added: “To do all that and be mid at it is sad ngl.”

“Dude willing to give up his life for the fame of being a fax machine,” a third fan added.

“That doesn’t sound enjoyable lol,” a fourth fan stated.

“This sounds like a horrible existence,” a fifth fan echoed the same sentiment.

Even though fans made fun of Charania’s honest revelation, when it comes to trusting NBA reports, they’re still likely to trust him more than any other insider out there.
