Alex Caruso admits laughing when he saw Magic Johnson’s message after OKC Thunder win

Alex Caruso reflects on LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson talking about him.

No team tested the Oklahoma City Thunder like the Denver Nuggets did in the 2025 NBA Playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the West was pushed to seven games.

However, the Thunder parried that threat with a memorable 4-3 win in the Western Conference semifinals.

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso played a crucial role in the win. How? Well, he took on the tough task of defending 3x NBA MVP Nikola Jokic despite being a smaller guard.

5x NBA champion and Lakers legend Magic Johnson is someone who constantly keeps tabs on the NBA despite being retired from the league decades ago.

Being a Lakers icon, Johnson obviously has more interest in current and former players associated with the team.

That was proven when Johnson went out of his way to congratulate Caruso on making the NBA Finals.

“Congratulations, former Laker and NBA champion Alex Caruso, who now plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder and is headed to the NBA Finals!” Johnson wrote on X.

As a former member of the Lakers and helping the team win the 2020 NBA Championship, one may wonder how Caruso felt upon seeing Magic’s tweet.

Well, the 31-year-old recently made an appearance on the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast where he discussed a plethora of things, including Johnson’s viral tweet.

“I just started laughing. I’ve seen his tweets before where it’s just like an AP memo release news tweet, ‘congratulations for…,’” Caruso stated.

He added: “It was great. Great representation and recognition from Magic.”

Asked if he had received a personal message, he responded: “Just a tweet.”

Despite not receiving a personal message from Johnson, being mentioned in a separate tweet is no small deal as Magic is still considered arguably the greatest point guard of all time.
