Anthony Edwards hilariously explains to Knicks fans why he won’t join the team

The Minnesota Timberwolves future relies heavily on Anthony Edwards and his development.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are fresh off a Western Conference Finals appearance. While they eventually suffered a series loss to the Dallas Mavericks, it became evident that Anthony Edwards was a superstar and their core with Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns was working out.

One problem that impacts any contending team is payroll, though. It was going to be expensive to keep that core around, which led to the club trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Dante DiVincenzo.

The trade was a unique one for both sides, but it was made in a cost-saving effort from Minnesota.

The duo of Towns and Edwards was one of the most entertaining a season ago. Knicks fans love to speculate and recruit opposing superstars to their favorite team. What’s not to like about New York? They’re a top market in the United States with one of the most passionate basketball cultures.

While the appeal of reuniting with Towns could be strong for Edwards, he made it clear to fans calling for him to join the team exactly why he won’t be doing so.

“If I play bad, y’all are going to be like ‘Booo!’” Edwards explained.

The recently surfaced video took place as the Timberwolves played the Knicks in Madison Square Garden during preseason play. Edwards’ hilarious response is also very fair, there is not letting up from those fans and they won’t settle for mediocre play.

While the Timberwolves were well-built, their Western Conference Finals run a season ago wouldn’t have happened without the help of Edwards. He’s the club’s franchise player and the cornerstone of their future.

During a recent cover story with ESPN, Edwards reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise. The cover story came alongside Minnesota Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

“If I can, I’m trying to be here [Timberwolves] for my whole career,” Edwards said.

The Timberwolves would be delighted to have a franchise player like Edwards finish his career out with the team, and it’ll give them an extended championship window to continue to make tweaks and build a strong enough roster to accomplish a title victory.
