Arsenal to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea in the coming days, according to multiple sources.

The 30-year-old has been on the books at Chelsea since joining from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for €80million, still the world-record fee for a goalkeeper, but he spent the last two seasons on loans at Real Madrid and Bournemouth. There is obviously no place for him at Stamford Bridge anymore, and he has therefore agreed to join Arsenal to act as a backup for David Raya. His current contract at Chelsea apparently contains a £5million release clause, and the Gunners will trigger it to get the transfer done.

Last season, Kepa made a total of 35 appearances for Bournemouth, conceding 43 goals and keeping a clean sheet on nine occasions. He has 13 caps as a Spain international to his name, though the last time he stood between the posts for his country was over two years ago, when Spain suffered a shocking defeat to Scotland in the qualifications for Euro 2024.
