Asia Cup 2025: BCCI breaks silence on boycotting India vs Pakistan clash

Amidst the uncertainty and swirling speculation, the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 is now locked in, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can’t back out due to the political or fan pressure.

It is being said that the high-voltage India vs Pakistan match will happen as planned on September 14, following a key decision at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.

India and Pakistan have been slotted in the same group along with UAE and Oman in Group A for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Now, the BCCI has no option to pull out at this stage. As the host nation, India had to stick to the finalized schedule.

A BCCI source was quoted as saying by IANS, “The BCCI cannot withdraw from the tournament or the match now. The decision was agreed upon after the ACC meeting. Since India is the host nation, nothing can be changed at this stage. An official-level discussion took place, and the outcome was decided accordingly. The match will go ahead as scheduled.”

India vs Pakistan clash in doubt After WCL 2025 pullout!

Meanwhile, the much-awaited India vs Pakistan face-off in the Asia Cup 2025 has been under a dark cloud. Recently, the Yuvraj Singh-led India Champions pulled out of a World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025) match against the Pakistan Champions in Birmingham due to a social media storm.

The high-profile India vs Pakistan clash had to be cancelled by the WCL organizers due to the rising political tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. This bold move has raised questions about whether India might also pull out of the Asia Cup 2025 clash with Pakistan.

So far, the BCCI hasn’t made any official statement about a possible boycott in the continental tournament. But with emotions running high, speculation is growing. On the other hand, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has finalized the schedule for the subcontinental event.

Fans demand BCCI to boycott Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025

On Saturday, July 26, the ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the 17th edition of the Asia Cup will be played between September 9 and September 28. The tournament will be played in the T20 format as a build-up to the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

For the first time in Asia Cup history, eight teams will compete, with Group A featuring India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. Fans could see the India vs Pakistan clash three times in the tournament if both teams reach the finals.

But the news has sparked major outrage among Indian fans on social media due to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Many fans are tagging the BCCI, demanding that India pull out of the matches against Pakistan.

Some fans have even threatened to boycott the games if they go ahead, slamming the BCCI for ignoring ongoing tensions between the two nations. Notably, India enters the tournament as defending champions, having crushed Sri Lanka in the 2023 final.
