August 9th: Saturday’s Championship Double – 5/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With the 2025/26 Championship campaign officially getting underway this weekend, we have a stacked schedule from across England’s second-tier on Saturday afternoon.

Rightfully billed as one of the most exciting domestic leagues from across the continent, we have 10 Championship showdowns on Saturday and plenty of action from up and down the country.

For those of you looking to stick on a Saturday flutter, we have taken a glance at some of the most appealing Championship betting tips that are available this weekend.

12:30 Coventry City vs Hull City

While Coventry might have watched their play-off adventure come to an end back in May as they fell to a 3-2 aggregate defeat against eventual winners Sunderland, the Sky Blues once again received a string of plaudits from across England’s second-tier. Although many might have been shocked back in November following Frank Lampard’s arrival in the Midlands, Saturday’s hosts are certainly enjoying life under the former Everton boss. Signing off the 2024/25 campaign with a gritty 2-0 victory at home against Middlesbrough, Coventry will have their sights set on mounting another top-six charge this time around. It should also be highlighted, along with collecting some notable scalps, Coventry won seven of their final eight regular-season appearances in front of their own supporters – a purple patch that stemmed all the way back to February 5th.

Enduring what was a public Championship crisis last season as they only just clung to their second-tier status, Hull are desperately seeking a smoother ride this time around. However, once again widely regarded as a leading relegation contender, new boss Sergej Jakirovic has a major job on his hands at the MKM Stadium. Along with winning just one of their final six Championship appearances, the Tigers also failed to register consecutive victories across any competition last season. Watching their FA Cup adventure come to a shock end on January 12th after crashing out against League One outfit Doncaster, Hull also gained a reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. Likewise, hit with a 2-1 defeat when they last travelled to Coventry, the former Dinamo Zagreb boss finds his squad pencilled in as a real underdog contender on the opening weekend.

17:30 Sheffield United vs Bristol City

Suffering major play-off final heartbreak at Wembley back on May 24th as they eventually collapsed to that infamous 2-1 loss against Sunderland in north London, Sheffield United are desperate to avoid showing any signs of a hangover here. Getting a new era underway at Bramall Lane this summer following Ruben Selles’ arrival, Saturday’s hosts will be confident of laying down an early statement of intent this weekend. Enjoying a bright pre-season run and winning four of their five friendly matchups over the past month, United will be excited to make a return to home soil on Saturday evening. Booking their ticket to Wembley on May 12th thanks to what was a sensational 6-0 aggregate romp against Bristol City, the former Hull boss will know the importance of getting his tenure at Bramall Lane underway with an opening weekend statement.

While the Robins might have sprung a real upset last season as they snatched a top-six finish, Bristol City watched their play-off dreams come to the most crushing of ends. Hit with that 6-0 aggregate defeat against United and failing to make any kind of impact, new boss Gerhard Struber will be bracing himself for a heavyweight opening weekend challenge at Bramall Lane. In fact, mustering just a single win from any of their final seven showdowns against Championship opposition last season, Saturday’s guests also hold what is a nightmare record against the Blades. Including that infamous play-off semi-final exit back in May, City have failed to win any of their previous nine consecutive meetings against the promotion contenders (seven defeats, two draws). It should also be noted, Struber’s new camp failed to register a single clean sheet after returning from March’s international break.
