Baron Davis picks out what the Golden State Warriors are missing, names three players who aren’t a solution

Former NBA star Baron Davis has questioned the makeup of the Golden State Warriors roster.

The Golden State Warriors are leaning into their hopes to maximize the last drops of the Stephen Curry era.

Curry, 37, is one of three veteran stars on the roster along with Draymond Green, 35, and Jimmy Butler, 35.

And this offseason the Warriors are heavily linked to signing free agent Al Horford, 39, who would bump their average age up even further.

This move would see them commit to focusing on winning now, and their famed ‘two timeline approach’ move further away from bearing fruit.

One of the reasons the Golden State Warriors ‘two timeline’ plan has failed is because the team have failed to find a top young star to build around.

Speaking to Podcast P, former star Baron Davis believes the Warriors lacking an elite young player is damaging for the team.

Davis said: “Who’s that young dude coming in the locker room like ‘I got this, tell me what you need me to do, and pour into me’.

“I don’t think the Warriors have figured that out yet.”

Davis singled out Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody as three valuable contributors, but concedes none of the trio are the superstars he says the team needs.

He said: “It’s still like you got Kuminga, got Pod, got Moody, so you got a lot of good solid young players. Now you need that x-factor.

“Like when Boston went and got Derrick White, ‘who is this dude’.

“You got to find somebody who is a valuable asset to this team. The year you won it with Jordan Poole, he was the x-factor. If he gets hot, oh ___.

Part of the Golden State Warriors’ problems has been their talent ID when it comes to finding top young talent.

The Warriors infamously had the number two overall pick in the 2020 Draft, and chose to take James Wiseman instead of LaMelo Ball.

One report even claimed they could have traded up for Anthony Edwards and showed no interest in doing so.

Kuminga was another high draft pick in 2021, taking him one pick ahead of Franz Wagner.

He has struggled to fit into Steve Kerr’s system, and a dilemma is currently ongoing, with the 22-year-old a restricted free agent this summer.
