Draymond Green has very specific advice for Jonathan Kuminga in how he must react to Steve Kerr’s comments.
Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has issued some words of advice for teammate Jonathan Kuminga.
Jonathan Kuminga is set to become a restricted free agent, and speaking in the second of two interviews this week, head coach Steve Kerr says he does not know whether the player wants to stay.
This came 24 hours after Kerr said he cannot fit Kuminga into his preferred rotation as a starter to play the amount of minutes the player would like.
Four times NBA champion Draymond Green broke down Kerr’s comments, and said he does not necessarily agree with his head coach.
And while he knows Kuminga will likely want to have his say, he is urging him to stay quiet for his own benefit.
Green told his podcast: “Steve Kerr, he’s a legend. He will be a Hall of Famer. These are just the facts. And so in saying that, I’m not sure it’s worth getting caught up into ‘Steve said this’ or ‘Steve said that’.”
Discussing Kuminga’s possible mindset, he continued: “‘Man, he said this, my next interview, whatever that may be, I need to respond.
“Quite frankly, I don’t think JK should have a next interview until after free agency.”
Draymond Green says Jonathan Kuminga has absolutely nothing to gain from going back-and-forth with the legendary head coach.
He said: “In this position where JK has to be careful, is Steve Kerr is a legend. Steve Kerr is one of the greatest coaches we’ve seen.
“JK can only lose here. Like, he can say something back, it could be the wrong thing, but he can only lose here.
“He has nothing to gain from trying to say something back, trying to respond to that, and he can only lose and hurt himself.”
Pointing to the fact the 22-year-old is heading to free agency, with his value increased since the playoffs, Green says Kuminga should let the situation play out.
“Don’t say nothing, free agency is happening. You got to go into free agency, he’s a restricted free agent. You got to figure out what’s going to work for you. And that’s going to happen anyway.
“[I’m] not going to sit here and argue, or go back and forth about his beliefs and I don’t think JK should either.”
