The Oklahoma City Thunder are sitting pretty at the top of the Western Conference and all is looking rosy for the future of the franchise.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is taking the league by storm and is the clear front-runner to be named the 2025 NBA MVP.
He has been a major reason for the team’s impressive 44-10 record, the Thunder are set to be a major player for the considerable future in the league as well considering their huge stack of five first-round selections for the 2025 NBA Draft.
The fact that the Thunder are managing this form without the likes of Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein is frightening.
Oklahoma City has a roster capable of winning a title and while Gilgeous-Alexander gets a lot of the plaudits he has several other talented teammates including Jalen Williams who has a big fan in Shaquille O’Neal.
While there have been many suggestions on how the Thunder could use their draft picks, NBA expert Bill Simmons thinks he has the answer.
Simmons speaking on The Ringer, suggested making a bold move for Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg: “Could this be the year that they take that seventh, eighth, ninth Philly pick, add like eight picks to it and just say ‘give us Cooper Flagg.’
“‘Here’s the all-time motherload of picks.’ Let’s say Charlotte gets the first pick and just gets a war chest of the all-time most picks ever in a trade from OKC just to move back six spots. Cooper Flagg is really good but you’d have to really think about it because it’s not a Victor Wembanyama pick.”
Cooper Flagg is an 18-year-old guard for the Duke Blue Devils playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Blue Devils are 13-1 in the Conference and 21-3 overall, and Flagg has certainly played a major part in this.
Flagg delivered a record-breaking performance in Duke’s victory against Notre Dame on January 12 scoring 42 points, six rebounds, and seven assists to set new freshman scoring records for both Duke University and the ACC.
The youngster also averages an impressive 19-7-4 this season and is shooting at 48.3% from the field.
He would certainly be a strong addition to an OKC Thunder side who are already stacked with talent for the future.
