Bronny James addressed his medical issues from last year, and how it has impacted his NBA career so far.
Bronny James was always going to have a tough task coming into the NBA. As the son of LeBron James, Bronny has enormous shoes to fill.
He chose to play college basketball in California, committing to USC in the summer of 2023. But before his season could even begin, Bronny’s life would change forever.

Luckily, the cardiac arrest didn’t cause any harm to Bronny James’ long-term health. And he was even cleared to play a few months later.
However, with his health scare, USC coaches were a little peckish about playing him big minutes. He averaged about 19 minutes a game, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.
Those numbers were far from impressive. But Bronny still made the decision to declare for the NBA Draft. And the Lakers, his father LeBron James’ team, chose him with the 54th overall pick.
So far, Bronny hasn’t impressed, averaging just 2.6 minutes, 0.6 points, 0.3 assists, and 0.1 rebounds per game.

In an interview with the Associated Press, James spoke about his struggles since his cardiac arrest. He noted that he has grown more resilient, and is just grateful to be playing the game he loves.
“I’ve become resilient over these past couple of years fighting through injuries, mental illness, stuff like that. Just, you know, coming in and working every day and staying the course.”
“My family, my parents, they are extremely thankful that I’m not only able to play basketball but also just walk around and speak to other people.”
“It’s a blessing to be able to play this sport that I love. There’s a chance I wasn’t going to be able to. So, I wake up and I’m thankful for that every day.”
Bronny James is currently finding more success in the G-League, where he gets more minutes. After initially struggling, he has gotten to a comfortable point, averaging 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
