The Denver Nuggets made a dramatic decision on their future with the decision fire head coach Michael Malone.
Michael Malone‘s tenure with the Denver Nuggets is over after the organization decided to fire him. And as part of a double decision, general manager Calvin Booth has also been let go.
The stunning decision left former NBA star Magic Johnson stunned, along with the majority of NBA fans. Former Nuggets coach George Karl was left speechless.
The Nuggets have only three games remaining of the regular season, beginning with their trip to the Sacramento Kings.
Former Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony was recording his podcast when the news of Michael Malone’s dismissal broke.
“Wow. I’m trying to process that real quick,” was his instant reaction.
After digesting the news, Carmelo Anthony explained that he feels this was a message from the organization that Malone was never going to replicate the team’s championship success from 2023.
He said: “When ___ like that happens, that means the front office, execs, feel like ‘we’ve peaked’.
“You’ve done everything you possibly do, you’ve won, you’ve built an amazing culture over here in Denver, you are the key to the turn in Denver culture, but you’ve peaked.”
“And I think that happened in Memphis too,” he added, in reference to the Grizzlies firing Taylor Jenkins.
The timing of the dismissal so soon before the playoffs is the big talking point, and Anthony pointed to what he thinks it means.
“That goes to show me y’all looking at this season as a wash. Y’already believing that we can’t do nothing, internally.”
Carmelo Anthony believes Michael Malone will be a top coaching candidate for the San Antonio Spurs, who could have to move on from Gregg Popovich permanently.
He said: “If I’m San Antonio, I’m going to get Mike Malone.
“I’m a fan of Mike Malone personally, I don’t know what happened but I’m a fan of Mike Malone, I would like to see him get a job ASAP.”
The Spurs job would be an exciting one for candidates with the team’s talent led by Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, and Malone may jump at the opportunity.
