The Boston Celtics are looking to repeat as NBA Champions and raise a 19th banner in their arena.
After years of playing competitive basketball and making the Eastern Conference Finals continually, the Boston Celtics finally got over the hump in 2024. They rose the club’s 18th banner after securing their first championship victory since 2008.
Jaylen Brown was the Finals MVP, though Jayson Tatum is a bonafide superstar and was also worthy of winning the award. Evidently, the only thing that matters for the Celtics is that they were able to raise a banner with that duo leading the way, and now they turn their focus on doing the same thing again.
Could it be a possibility? It certainly seems the Celtics will have the tools to win the NBA Finals once again.
While Tatum might have been criticized for his play throughout the team’s playoff run, he was the heartbeat of the team. Whether it be leading the team in the locker room or passing out of double teams, he did whatever was needed from him to help them put together an incredible postseason run.
Tatum isn’t foreign to incredible regular season play, either. So much so that former NBA player Chandler Parsons is selecting Tatum to win the Most Valuable Player award next season.
“They’re still hating on him, making him seem like he’s an issue and he’s not that guy. I think Tatum has the biggest year of his career this year and I think the Boston Celtics win it all and I think he’s the MVP,” Parsons claimed on “Run it Back.”
The 26-year-old has finished top-six in MVP voting in each of the past three seasons. During the 2022-23 regular season, Tatum notched his best scoring season, averaging 30.1 points per game. If he can do that again while leading his team past 60 wins once again, he’ll certainly be in the conversation for the award.
Parsons also predicted the Boston to become champions once again. They’re absolutely loaded so it makes sense. Outside of Brown, who won the Finals MVP, the club has Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White — all of which are incredible contributors.
That very depth is also one aspect working against Tatum in the MVP conversation. Someone like Luka Doncic, who doesn’t have as quality teammates as Tatum, will average absurd numbers while doing a bulk of the work, and voters will give him the nod simply because Tatum’s team is more well-comprised.
Evidently, picking Tatum for MVP is quite a seep prediction. However, there is some momentum for him to shine from the jump. He was benched with Team USA and didn’t make the rotation on a consistent basis, which came after Brown won the Finals MVP over him.
