Charles Barkley has hit out at Kendrick Perkins comments on the LA Lakers.
The LA Lakers recent form has added a little extra excitement to the league. Former star Kendrick Perkins took it a step further when he claimed the ball club is “saving the NBA”.
This came in the wake of a winning streak sparked by Luka Doncic’s takeover since last month’s groundbreaking arrival from the Dallas Mavericks.
Left infuriated, Charles Barkley himself didn’t hold back dismissing Kendrick Perkins for his take.
Barkley blasted the big man, and anyone else willing to disagree, during a rant on Inside The NBA.
He hit out at a recency bias showing, arguing there is an obvious disregard towards the league’s truest elites.
It can’t be denied that the entire basketball world directed its spotlight towards Los Angeles upon the Lakers’ blockbuster acquisition of Luka Doncic.
Doncic’s brilliance is having an effect already. They have won nine of their last 11 games, allowing them to deliver a dramatic emergence atop the Western Conference as the current No. 2 seed (40-21).
With how great the Lakers are right now, most talking heads in the media are busy highlighting the team as the subject of their discussion.
And upon the recent statement by Perkins, Barkley immediately got fed up, calling him a “fool” while ripping ESPN in NBA on TNT pregame show on March 6.
“He said the Lakers saved the NBA season. That’s because them fools on the other network, which we’re going to be working for next year, that’s all they talk about,” Barkley began.
“Hey man, the Lakers are doing great. Got a long way to go. But the reason the season’s been going great — the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder — y’all just want to talk about the Warriors and the Lakers.
“They’re both doing great. Don’t get me wrong. If I turn out to be wrong, I got no problem with that. But y’all are idiots ’cause y’all talk about the Lakers and the Warriors all the time. The Cleveland Cavaliers have won 12 straight games. Oklahoma City got the MVP and they are on fire. Y’all are talking about who’s in second place. That’s the reason I get p____. Hey, the Lakers are doing great. I don’t mind being wrong. The Warriors are doing great.
“But that’s ’cause you fools on the other network, which we’re gonna become fools next year when we be working on that network, but Oklahoma City and the Cavs been balling for six months. Y’all talking about teams that had two great weeks.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently sitting atop the league’s landscape right now. Both teams are ruling their respective Conference, with the Cavs holding 52-10 while the Thunder are 51-11 at the other hand.
Yet despite the Cavs’ ongoing 12-win streak and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP frontrunner campaign, there’s only a minimal chatter happening around them.
Hours after Barkley’s scathing criticism against him, Perkins hits back on his personal X account by calling out the Hall of Famer.
The post says: “Hey @NBAonTNT might wanna tell that senior citizen Charles Barkley that I’ll be around. When he see an idiot or fool in person make sure he keep that same energy. He can come playing with me if he want to and imma Address his ass like the numbers on a house. Straight from the 409 homeboy and we bar none and fade all. #TexasBoy”
Barkley and Perkins are two of the most outspoken pundits in the business. As such, we can only brace for more words between them in the next couple of days and even next year in which the legend is slated to take his broadcasting acts as a member of ESPN.
Regardless, the Cavs and the Thunder undoubtedly deserve proper treatment and top-notch coverage. Not discrediting the Lakers’ success thus far, but both heavyweight teams earned their right to be at the center of league intrigue with their outstanding records.
