‘Cheat code’ Anthony Davis made me feel like All-Star defender, he’s the fourth best I’ve ever played with

Spencer Dinwiddie is blessed enough to boast to everyone that he shared the court with some of the well-known legends of the game.

In his recent appearance on the Run Your Race podcast, Spencer Dinwiddie didn’t have second thoughts on naming LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Kevin Durant as the top three teammates he had in any order.

The three superstars are undisputedly greatness personified, which Dinwiddie fully witnessed the brightest throughout his 11-year NBA run.

Yet even though he identified Anthony Davis lands at the fourth place, that doesn’t mean Dinwiddie won’t give the superstar big man his well-deserved flowers.

Dinwiddie is relatively known for being an offensive-minded player. A veteran point guard, Dinwiddie excelled in offense through the means of facilitating the offense and scoring basketball.

Yet given his size and position. defense has been his weakness in which there were times he’s been frequently attacked by opposing teams for mismatch plays.

But by becoming a member of the Los Angeles Lakers last 2023-24 season, Dinwiddie himself didn’t experience struggles and being exposed at the defensive end thanks to Anthony Davis.

“Thinking of people I’ve actively played with, he’s probably got to be the fourth best, [but] AD is a different type of guy to the other ones. AD made you feel, made me feel like I was an All-Star defender,” Dinwiddie said.

“All I got to do is make two moves, and get you to the paint, he doing the rest.  This is a cheat code, he’s cold.”

Dinwiddie also pointed out that due to injuries, he never got to play alongside James Harden for the Nets.

Davis is truly an elite defensive powerhouse and the main anchor of the Lakers’ identity at the said department. For years, he never truly obtained the respect he deserves as a defender — failing to win even a single Defensive Player of the Year.

From Davis’ defensive presence, the Lakers are obtaining tons of benefits on both ends. His formidable shot blocking provides Los Angeles with tons of possessions, and his ability to impact the game with how he operates essentially makes the Lakers competitive.

This season, Davis is averaging another stellar defensive number with 2.0 blocks and 1.2 steals, which will only get better as the season moves along and with the Lakers continuing to gel.
