The LA Lakers are set to benefit from a new-look rejuvenated Luka Doncic.
Luka Doncic’s new look has created a wave of discussion across the NBA, with the Slovenian superstar looking slimmer and more toned than ever.
Doncic’s body transformation comes ahead of his first full season on the LA Lakers, following his shock trade in February.
Already one of the league’s most prolific scorers, Doncic’s improved fitness will help him from a defensive perspective, where he has faced heavy criticism.
Luka Doncic’s dedication to improving his body reflects his determination to prove his doubters wrong.
The topic of Luka Doncic was discussed on First Things First, and Chris Broussard expressed his excitement about the Lakers’ new-look star.
Broussard reflected on how gym work is beneficial to basketball players, citing Doncic’s teammate LeBron James, and NBA legend Michael Jordan’s own path to greatness.
He said: “LeBron clearly lifts weights. Michael Jordan when faced with those Detroit Pistons he had to get past, started lifting weights. So I don’t think that’s bad.
“That’s decades old, the notion that old basketball players lose their flexibility if they lift. No, he should be lifting.
“He’s already really strong. But look, if this is accurate, man, he is going to be a monster.”
It was shown during Michael Jordan’s ‘Last Dance documentary’ how the superstar used gym work to make his game more resilient.
He had suffered three straight playoff exits to the Detroit Pistons, and he was quoted: “I was getting brutally beaten up, and I wanted to administer pain. I wanted to start fighting back.”
Back in the early 1990s, Jordan told the Chicago Tribune about the concerns Broussard dismissed, commenting: “I never really lifted weights before because I was always afraid it would mess up my shot or slow me down.”
Michael Jordan went on to win the NBA title six times. Luka Doncic would settle for half that many, or just one right now. The LA Lakers are looking to end their own drought, and win a first NBA title since 2020.
